Two days are enough to combine some of the Dordogne’s best-known places with time outdoors, provided the pace stays generous.
Begin with Sarlat-la-Canéda while the streets are still cool and quiet. Explore the honey-coloured old town, choose a terrace for lunch and leave space in the afternoon for a family activity or a slow drive through the countryside.
On the second day, follow the river towards Limeuil, where the Dordogne and Vézère meet. The village rises steeply from the water, rewarding the climb with wide views. A canoe trip nearby offers a completely different perspective: limestone banks, wooded slopes and villages appearing around each bend.
Distances can be deceptive on rural roads, so choose one main experience each day. A relaxed return to the house, a swim and supper outdoors are part of the itinerary rather than time left over.
